Monstera Deliciosa (Monstera deliciosa)

Meet one of the most recognizable houseplants around! Monstera Deliciosa, also known as the Swiss Cheese Plant or Split-Leaf Monstera, is famous for its large, glossy green leaves that develop dramatic splits and holes as the plant matures. Its bold, tropical foliage makes a beautiful statement in any room, bringing a little rainforest atmosphere right into your home.

Despite its impressive appearance, Monstera Deliciosa is surprisingly easy to care for. This tropical climbing plant adapts well to typical indoor conditions and can tolerate lower indirect light, although brighter indirect light encourages larger leaves and more dramatic splits. As it grows, it develops aerial roots that help it climb, making a moss pole or other support a great addition for mature plants.

Care Tips:
☀️ Light: Medium to bright, indirect light is ideal. Tolerates lower indirect light, but growth may slow and new leaves may develop fewer splits. Avoid harsh direct afternoon sunlight
💧 Water: Water when the top 1 to 2 inches of soil feel dry. Prefers a well-draining potting mix and should never sit in standing water
🌫 Humidity: Average household humidity is usually sufficient, although moderate to high humidity encourages lush growth
❄️ Temperature: Prefers 65 to 85°F. Protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 55°F
🐾 Pet Friendly: No, contains calcium oxalate crystals that can cause irritation if chewed or ingested
⭐ Rare: No

Fun Fact:
Those beautiful holes and splits in Monstera leaves are called fenestrations. Young plants typically start with solid, heart-shaped leaves and develop their famous openings as they mature. In its natural tropical habitat, Monstera Deliciosa can even produce an edible fruit, which is where the name "deliciosa" comes from! 🌿
