White Fittonia (Fittonia albivenis)
White Fittonia, also known as the Nerve Plant, is a beautiful tropical houseplant featuring small, deep green leaves covered in intricate white veins. Its striking, almost mosaic-like foliage creates a gorgeous contrast that makes this little plant stand out despite its compact size. Its low-growing, spreading habit makes it perfect for terrariums, small planters, and adding a pop of greenery to shelves or desktops.
Native to the tropical rainforests of South America, White Fittonia naturally grows along the shaded forest floor, making it an excellent choice for spaces with lower indirect light. It loves humidity and consistently moist soil, making it especially happy in terrariums. And if you forget to water it, don't be surprised if it dramatically collapses! Luckily, it often perks right back up after a good drink.
Care Tips:
☀️ Light: Low to medium, indirect light, tolerates shade but avoid direct sunlight that can scorch its delicate leaves
💧 Water: Keep soil lightly and consistently moist, allowing just the surface to begin drying between waterings. Avoid prolonged dryness or soggy soil
🌫 Humidity: Prefers high humidity, ideally 60% or higher. Excellent for terrariums
❄️ Temperature: Prefers temperatures around 65 to 80°F, protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 60°F
🐾 Pet Friendly: Yes, non-toxic to cats and dogs
⭐ Rare: No
Fun Fact:
Fittonias are famous for their dramatic reaction to thirst. When their soil gets too dry, they can suddenly wilt so dramatically that they look completely dead, only to bounce back after watering. It's basically the houseplant equivalent of throwing yourself onto the floor because nobody brought you a drink. 😂🌿
