6" Calthea Freddie

Calathea Freddie (Goeppertia concinna ‘Freddie’)

Calathea Freddie is a beautiful tropical houseplant with long, slender leaves featuring a striking pattern of dark green stripes against a soft, silvery-green background. Its elegant foliage grows in a full, slightly arching shape, making it a gorgeous addition to shelves, tabletops, or anywhere that could use a little tropical greenery.

Freddie is known for its fascinating leaf movement and love of humidity. Like other prayer plants, its leaves gently rise and lower throughout the day in response to changing light conditions. While it appreciates a little extra attention when it comes to watering and humidity, its beautiful patterned foliage makes the effort worthwhile. Keep it away from harsh direct sunlight and dry air to help those gorgeous leaves stay healthy.

Care Tips:
☀️ Light: Medium to bright, indirect light, avoid direct sunlight that can scorch or fade the leaves
💧 Water: Keep soil lightly and consistently moist, allowing the surface to begin drying between waterings. Avoid soggy soil and consider filtered or distilled water if leaf tips become brown
🌫 Humidity: Prefers high humidity, ideally 50% or higher, and appreciates a humidifier
❄️ Temperature: Thrives around 65 to 80°F, protect from cold drafts and sudden temperature changes
🐾 Pet Friendly: Yes, non-toxic to cats and dogs
⭐ Rare: No

Fun Fact:
Calathea Freddie displays a fascinating behavior called nyctinasty, where its leaves change position throughout the day and night. This movement is controlled by specialized structures at the base of the leaves called pulvini. Your plant isn't being dramatic, it's just following its own daily routine. 🌿💚
