2" Venus Fly Trap

Venus Flytrap (Dionaea muscipula)
The Venus Flytrap is one of the most famous carnivorous plants, known for its jaw-like traps that snap shut when triggered by unsuspecting insects. Native to the wetlands of North and South Carolina, this fascinating plant uses its modified leaves to lure, trap, and digest prey—making it both a functional bug-catcher and a conversation piece.
Care Tips:
☀️ Light: Needs at least 4–6 hours of direct sunlight daily; indoors, use a strong grow light if natural sun is insufficient
💧 Water: Only use distilled water, rainwater, or reverse osmosis water; keep soil consistently damp but not waterlogged
🌱 Soil: Requires nutrient-poor, acidic soil such as sphagnum moss mixed with sand or perlite—never regular potting soil
🌫 Humidity: Prefers moderate humidity, especially indoors
❄️ Dormancy: Needs a winter dormancy (about 3–4 months at cooler temps) to survive long-term
🐾 Pet Friendly: Yes
Fun Fact: The Venus Flytrap’s trap only closes when two hairs are touched in quick succession, a clever way of avoiding “false alarms” from raindrops or debris.
